Ontario Nurses’ Association
Goal
To create an accessible, bilingual, and user-friendly platform that helps Ontario nurses easily find important resources, access their collective agreements, and stay connected through news and advocacy updates
Founded in 1973, the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) is Canada’s largest nurses’ union, representing health-care professionals across Ontario. Rooted in grassroots activism, ONA advocates for safe, fair workplaces and high-quality care. Guided by unity, integrity, and inclusion, it has spent over 50 years championing systemic change and empowering its members.
ONA needed a digital platform to serve its large and diverse membership across Ontario. The site had to provide easy access to frequently updated provincial and local collective agreements and support both English and French speakers. With various districts having unique agreements, ONA needed a system that could offer real-time updates and make district-specific content easy to find. They also wanted a better way to share advocacy campaigns and news with their members.
We developed a solution that addressed ONA’s needs while improving accessibility and engagement. We created a real-time system for collective agreements, ensuring up-to-date provincial and local agreements were automatically posted throughout the day. A dynamic search bar was also added, making it easy for users to quickly find relevant content. The site is fully bilingual, with an easy-to-use English-to-French translation feature.
We also developed local microsites for each district, giving members easy access to region-specific content. Additionally, we launched onamag.org, a campaign and news site to keep members informed about ONA’s initiatives. These updates helped enhance ONA’s digital presence, making it a more user-friendly platform that empowers nurses with the information they need.
Before & After

The Client Says

Award-Winning Website
Following the successful redesign and development of the Ontario Nurses’ Association’s (ONA) website, the project received recognition as the 2025 Reed Award Winner for Best Canadian Website and the 2025 CALM Award for Best Website Redesign. These awards highlight the impact of the new platform and the quality of the work that went into enhancing ONA’s digital presence.
Dynamic Search Functionality
We developed a dynamic and intuitive search bar that significantly improved site navigation, allowing nurses to quickly and efficiently find the information they need, whether it’s collective agreements, district-specific resources, or organizational updates. This feature enhances accessibility and streamlines the user experience across the platform.
Up-To-Date Contract System
A comprehensive contract system was developed where nurses can easily access both provincial and local collective agreements, each tied to specific regional local codes. These codes correspond to geographic areas and groups of hospitals, helping users quickly find agreements relevant to their workplace. To ensure accuracy, the system checks ONA’s internal database every few hours for updates and automatically reflects any changes on the site in real time, keeping nurses informed with the most current information available.
Bilingual Website
We implemented a built-in English-to-French translation feature, ensuring the platform is fully accessible to both English and French-speaking nurses across Ontario. This addition supports inclusivity and allows all members to navigate the site with ease.
ONA Local Websites
To make information even more accessible, we developed dedicated microsites for each local city, representing districts across Ontario. Each website was tailored to its specific region with unique logos and localized details, while maintaining consistent overall branding to ensure a cohesive user experience. Nurses could easily find updates, agreements, and resources relevant to their local hospitals and workplaces, making it simple to navigate and stay informed about what matters most in their area.

F Word Website
Most recently, we launched a dynamic magazine news site to support ONA’s ongoing advocacy efforts. Centred around the “F-word” campaign, the platform is designed to engage members with powerful storytelling and critical updates. The site is divided into three main categories: Fuel, which shares the hard truths about pressing issues affecting the nursing sector, Fuse, which highlights ONA’s active work on key member concerns, and Fight, which features real stories of member action and solidarity. This platform offers a bold, accessible space for nurses to stay informed, inspired, and connected to the movement.
Mobile Responsive Website
To ensure accessibility on the go, we developed a fully responsive mobile version of the website. The mobile experience was built with nurses in mind, whether they’re on shift, commuting, or at home, they can quickly access agreements, updates, and news without compromising usability or functionality. The streamlined interface adapts seamlessly across devices, making it easier than ever for members to stay connected and informed wherever they are.
